L'origine du streetwear
The origin of streetwear
The origin of streetwear lies in the fusion of different styles. There are memories of the jazz era, references to Californian surfers, skate culture and especially hip-hop culture.
Indeed, in the 1980s, this new musical genre emerged, created by the youth of the ghetto and "suburbs" of New York. During this decade, a new kind of boy band developed, far from the Beatles and their ideal son-in-law. Among them, Public Enemy, NWA or RunDMC, which become the standard bearers of alternative cultures.
To claim their identity, they still invent a new dress style that is breaking up society. puritanical, and ultimately the same BCBG code. It is also the adaptation of clothing to movements and breakdance practices.

They adopt a set of loose pants and sportswear, wear XXL sneakers and t-shirts, dress with hats, jewelry, and make it easier to wear sweatshirts and hoodies. This is the birth of streetwear.

What really defines streetwear as a unique style is the emergence of specialist brands that promote the movement. Of particular note is the Stüssy brand, founded in the early 1980s, first producing surfboards and then T-shirts.
Since the early 80s, the streetwear style has gone through several stages and has become more or less uniform. Today, you can see rappers wearing skate sneakers and high fashion brands, and surfers wearing hip-hop T-shirts.
Some elements of streetwear style clothing may vary, but the common thread is always a pair of sneakers. Because the importance of sneaker culture cannot be denied in this movement, clothing today is mainly made up of sneakers. The latter is more popular than ever, trendy and invading other styles.
